Aunt Terri Comes to VA!

Aunt Terri was in town for the long weekend and we celebrated with a turkey dinner.
Of course, no meal would be complete without chocolate pie!!!

Zach was announcing that the pie is being served.

It was the perfect night to sit on the back porch and enjoy the campfire....until we heard a bobcat screeching! Suddenly, the living room seemed more inviting!

David, Dad and Di got the base trim painted and installed this past week. It looks amazing!

Dad painted the front door and the french doors! They look very stylish!

More Lights????

Just when you think this house has enough lights, David puts up something else! This morning it was time to put up the lights over the kitchen table. David wanted to wait until they moved in and had some time to decide exactly where they wanted the table.
Even the home owners agree, it looks GREAT!

It didn't take long and Dad and David were on to another project! :)

Since he paid for the name, I figured he should see how his room has turned out...so far. This "plaque" is beautifully displayed in the window of the room. (Apparently, I have nothing else to do but attempt to make my uncle smile!)

Diane is using this book for guests of the Trexler House to journal in during their stay. So far, the Olcotts, Rebecca and Zachary have had an opportunity to stay as special guests.

This painting, from their friends at the Alliance Church in Lafayette, looks PERFECT in this room! This will be one of their treasures, always! Just like their friends back in NY.

New Furniture!

The new furniture in the living room is so cozy! The cushions are a small checkered print. The pictures do not do it justice. It is beautiful! David's recliner is still at the house so that Dad can sleep comfortably.

The master bedroom has really come together.

Dad and Di also built the cabinet for the bathroom and put in the shelves. It didn't take long to fill! :)

Now That He's Recovering....

Now that Dad is feeling better, still sore but a lot better, things are happening at the house. The Trexler sign went up along the edge of the driveway.

Dad built the shelves for the pantry. From floor to ceiling, there is a lot of storage!

The baker's cabinet is not new....but I love to take pictures of it. I keep telling them it can be moved to my house anytime they get sick of it!

Yes, that's what you are seeing...a NEW wall! To all of you blog followers, I know that you thought this stage of the house was over! Well, once they were moved in it was easy to see that the wall was needed. This will help block off the storage area in the laundry room.

A Few Weeks Ago...

A few weeks ago, things were really happening at the Trexler House....the dishwasher was delivered and installed,
Dad and Di were busy painting pieces of trim,

Diane and Zach even helped supervise the installation of the bead board on the ceiling of the front porch.

David and the twins put the bead board up.

But then, only a day or two after this....Dad fell and broke four ribs. Things slowed down for a bit!!!

24 Hours Later....

24 hours after moving into their new home, the crew was still busy around the house. Zach wanted Grandma to have a campfire on the back deck.
Rebecca was getting some of her laundry done.

Dad and David were adjusting the spice racks on either side of the stove while Di unpacked kitchen boxes and I vacuumed out the cabinets and drawers.

The rooms are starting to fill up and look more like a home.

Rebecca is learning which light switch goes to which light...there are a lot of them.

After a long day, it was time to eat some pizza, play some cards and enjoy our time together.

Dad and Carl cleaned out the truck.

Di and Barb FINALLY sat down to catch their breath. But...they didn't sit for long!

Zach was SO excited early this morning that he wrote letters to Grandma and Grandpa. That was better than waking them up! :)

The Trexlers are moved in and glad to be home. They are very thankful for the people who helped them prepare to leave New York and those who helped them unload in Virginia.

Their adventure truly begins...NOW!

Moving In!

Today was such a beautiful day! Everyone was working hard to get the rest of the truck unloaded, and some of the house organized.

They were even able to return the truck today. Dad thought it might be a few days before it went back, but with such hard workers, it got done quickly.

David and Junior worked on getting the microwave installed today. Last night he got the other appliances installed.

While nearly everything we did today went smoothly, some things were a little more challenging.

In the end, the quilt rack looked perfect. It just seemed to take a long time.

By the way, the Olcotts enjoyed their stay in "Uncle Bruce's Room." They were thrilled to have been the FIRST guests to stay in the house. :)

The Evening They Arrived

Zachary greeted Grandma and Grandpa with Welcome Home signs.

David made a GREAT dinner for all of us. The weary travelers were happy to be out of the vehicles and at their destination.

After dinner, we were going to unload only the appliances and two beds...but instead, the majority of the truck was unloaded. It did make things easier today! :)

It's finally moving day!!! Dad and Di got to Louisa at about 6:40 last night. Carl and Barb Olcott drove the moving truck for them so that they could drive together in the car. The trip took 11 and 1/2 hours...longer than usual due to some HEAVY rain storms.

Only Three Weeks Left!

Yes, that's right! Only three weeks left! David and Kenny worked on laying down more mulch.

The straw is over the drain field (up in the woods). They wanted to get all of that done before the rain comes tonight.

Today the digging of the drain field was started. Four of the five main ditches were dug today as well as the main ditch.

Today, instead of working outside in the 107 degree heat (that's with the heat index), David and Junior worked on putting in the tile back splash in the kitchen.

I have a feeling, Di is going to be VERY happy with this tile when it's all done! (grouting, etc.)

Another long day for David and the twins down at the house....and another HOT day as well. The left side of the retaining wall got done and looks great.

The gentle slope down into the basement...excuse me..."Man Cave," is very hard to capture with the camera. So we got pictures from lots of different angles.

It is not nearly as steep as it looks!

Clearing Some Trees for the Septic

When you live in the woods, sometimes some trees have to come down for a project! As they get ready for the septic, the leach field also has to be cleared. This is a wide view from the back of the house.

Moving More Dirt!

Di was getting a little nervous about her turn around in the driveway. It's still there...no worries!

Here is a wider view of the front of the house. Still dirt to move but a lot has been done. Remember the HUGE pile at the far end of the house that has been there since the digging began --last year--GONE!

There is a lot of dirt that moved back here in the past two days! And boy has it been hot and humid!

Ryan was putting down a layer of stone dust so that the second side of the retaining wall could be started tonight.

It's been a long wait but things are happening once again at the Trexler House!!! Welcome Back! Today the machines came and leveled out the driveway. They had to cut down nearly four feet on the right hand side.

The back deck is looking more like a deck now that it is filled in with dirt. Now it won't be mistaken for a swimming pool. :)

The Well Gets Drilled!

Today was finally the day for the well to be drilled! We had some weather issues that slowed the process. When the pictures were taken, they were at about 75 feet and still drilling.

I liked the faucet when I saw it in the box but I LOVE it installed! It's so perfect for this kitchen!

Once again, things are really coming together. There are not many parts of the house left to be finished.

Well Drilling Truck has Arrived

We were anticipating that the well drilling would begin today but the weather did not cooperate,
I heard Uncle Howie was asking a lot of questions about the well, so here are some pictures of the equipment that got dropped off.

Preparing for the Well

Today, Zach and I took a walk down the path through the woods to Grandma and Grandpa's house.

I hadn't seen the box the power company put in...I try to stay out of the woods. :)

The guy that will be drilling the well this week came and dropped off some of his equipment.

When Dad and Di arrive at the end of April, they will have water in their house...no septic but water.

Kitchen Cabinets-Final Touches

David installed the crown molding on the top of the kitchen cabinets, today. It really gives them the "finished" look.
The only thing left to do with the cabinets is to put in the glass doors and fill them with the necessities!

This is a new cabinet that David installed. It is three inches wider than the original one.

Odds and Ends!

David installed the base "trim" around the kitchen cabinets. It looks GREAT!

Uncle Bruce's room got a closet bar so that he can hang his tuxedo when he visits! The hall closet and the office closet got the same.

The carpet got vacuumed and David installed the metal strips.

The Concrete Gets "Paint"

Today David "painted" a stain onto the front porch concrete as well as the apron. It looks really sharp!

The concrete floor in the garage got an epoxy sealer put on it, today. The colors look really nice together and compliment the house, well.

There was a sand mix added to both so that the concrete would not be as slippery when damp or wet.

CARPET!!!!!!

THE CARPET WAS INSTALLED TODAY!!!!! This is really feeling like a home! Here is the living room.
The carpet looks good in all of the rooms! I think it looks GREAT with the blue in the master bedroom!

David set up a sample piece of the base trim that Dad will be installing when they move to VA in the fall.

Obviously, here is the carpet in the hallway.

We don't show pictures of this room on the blog very often. Here is a picture of the closet in the room that Zach will be moving into at "Papa and Grandma's!" April Fools! :)

Actually, David has had some time to work on our house a bit and just finished putting in Zach's closet.

We will be moving the rest of his things into his room this weekend. I'm wondering how long it can stay this clean!

Decorating Already!

While Dad and Di were here last weekend, they had a chance to hang up some of their paintings. David installed special lights into the ceiling that will illuminate each painting.

The raccoon painting looks so great as you look through the arch and down the hall.

Dad and Di have put A LOT of details into every inch of the house! Of course, the decisions are not done yet...almost! Here is the tile they have picked out to go with the counter top in the kitchen.

Just when David thought his days of laying tile were over....actually, laying tile at the entrance in the living room was a very smart idea. The carpet will be installed shortly and this will help to prolong the life of the carpet.
The tile extends into the living room closet.

These are the lights that Dad and Di picked out for the laundry / storage room. They look really nice in person.

The garage door opener is installed on the side of the garage door. It is VERY quiet!

100th Post Of The Trexler House!!!!

WOW!!! 100 posts on the blog! This is where it all happens. I can easily escape being on the blog when I am the one taking the pictures but since Dad was here this weekend, I didn't have a choice! :)

David and I (as well as the boys) are so excited for our new neighbors to move in! We will enjoy having more family here in Virginia.

This past weekend we enjoyed the first of MANY card games at the Trexler House. We moved our outdoor furniture into the living room so we would be able to "test out the house!"

I am glad that so many of you have enjoyed the blog so far! I started it so that Dad and Di could see each stage of their home being built. It has been a wonderful journey and I am glad that so many people have had a chance to share it will us!

Kitchen Updates!

Dad was showing me the new kitchen faucet. This thing is VERY heavy and will look great when the sink and counter top are installed.
David, Dad, Di and the twins worked to install all of the knobs and handles on the kitchen cabinets and drawers.

Each new thing that gets puts into the kitchen compliments all of the other things! A lot of planning went into each detail of the Trexler House!

Final Touches in the Garage

Zach loves the stairs that go up to the "loft." It's a rather large storage area above the garage.
They may not have moved any furniture into the house yet, but Dad was excited to find a place for his work bench!

A sink in the garage is always a good thing! This sits over the valves to the radiant heat that is in the garage floor.

Concrete

The concrete on the front porch was another surprise for Dad and Di. They knew it was happening but didn't see any pictures.

There are two "flower boxes" on either side of the garage door. I planted these just before Dad and Di arrived so that the house would have a more "homey" feel to it.

Lots of finishing touches were put into the bathrooms this week. After the tile went down, the sinks and toilets were installed. Diane also brought shower curtains to hang.
The blue bathroom is the master bathroom.

"Bus Driver, MOVE THAT BUS!"

When Dad and Di arrived on Thursday night, this is what they saw as they drove up the driveway! When the garage door opened and they realized they were going to be able to drive in, Diane was SCREAMING, "Bus driver, MOVE THAT BUS!" It really did feel like an episode of Extreme Home Makeover! They had no idea that the garage door opener had even been installed!

Today has been such beautiful weather and they wanted to make sure they found some time to plant some of the plants they had brought from New York.

The ground is drying up around the back of the house and we were able to go down to "The Man Cave" (as David and Dad call it).

The gutters were installed last week and are already helping to keep the water away from the house.

Zachary is VERY happy to have his own mode of transportation to get to Grandma and Papa's house! All that mud is from today's many trips through the woods. He wants Grandma to get a four wheeler, too!
The crew was busy laying DuraRock down in the laundry room and kitchen today. The Tile will be going on top of that.

The Painting is DONE!!!!

Finally, a picture of the guest bathroom. Without a window it has been pretty hard to take pictures in this room. Now with the paint on the walls, the flash worked pretty well!

Dad will be building a medicine cabinet for this bathroom as well as the master bathroom. It's great that he will be getting to put his own personal touches into the house!

Here is the office. The yellow paint in this room is more of a golden color than in some of the other rooms.

Once Dad and Di move to VA, I'm sure they will spend a lot of time doing their own blogging here in the office! :)

Today David was hard at work (by himself) and he managed to paint all of the hallway, the living room and the kitchen area! That was a lot of cutting in and rolling!

This holly tree in the front of the Trexler House is having a hard time adjusting to the weather!

Driving down Rolling Path isn't usually this hazardous! We got our foot of snow and now Central Virginia is under a State of Emergency!

Everything at the Trexler House looks so clean and white (no yucky clay mud!)

This picture was at our house just to show how much accumulation was on the table (the kids sat in the chairs before I could get the picture).

Snow in Virginia?????

It is snowing pretty hard here in Louisa! This picture was taken a few hours ago and we now have about two inches! The are calling for 8-11 inches before tomorrow night....we'll see!
Here are some pictures of "Uncle Bruce's Room." I have heard that many of the people following the blog would like to have the name of this room changed...for the right price, I'll start calling it someone else's room! Uncle Bruce, that goes for you, too! As for the "office", I'm willing to change the name of that room as well. Bring on the offers! :)

The color of the room came out really nice. It's a soft, buttery yellow. Very bright and cheerful! Perfect for a guest bedroom!

The sink will be directly under these two windows.

This wall is to the right of the French doors. The kitchen table will be about where David was standing when he took the picture.

On the left of the picture is a kitchen wall. From this angle, you can see into the living room and part of the hallway. I can't believe how good things are looking...and this is only PRIMER! Can't wait for paint!

Time For Primer!

Before they could begin putting primer on the walls, all of the walls had to be washed to remove sheetrock dust. Ryan and Davey worked hard cutting in the edges in the master bedroom and David came behind them with the roller.
Davey left the climbing to Ryan since he is still in his boot cast.

The Siding is Done!

I was trying to take a picture of the rounded corners in the living room/hallway area. I'm not sure if you can tell, but it really softens up the space.
Today David and Kenny worked on the upper part of the siding as well as the front.

David also wrapped the outside of the garage. Everything at this point is starting to feel like a final touch.

Today they worked on finishing the back side of the house and got a lot of the front of the house sided.
David's brother, "Yankee," stopped by to lend a helping hand.

Looks like the "Liddle Brothers" could start their own siding business.

The weather has really been nice this week (in the 70's) so working outside has been ideal!

Tape and Mud!

Well, I didn't expect to be taking pictures at 7:30 at night (that's usually when I am on the phone with the home owners discussing the blog:) but David wasn't sure I had seen the progress on the inside of the house--he was right! The taping and mudding began today.
The "stuff" (since I don't know the technical term) leaning on the wall is for the arch way.

David put the plastic up in the arch way to show me how it would look. It smooths it out and makes it a PERFECT arch!

Here is a section of the garage. You can see the shine on the concrete floor--it's because the moisture is coming out of the floor. David says it's sweating. I know Dad will think that the power company came, but I just have a REALLY good flash on my camera. It was actually pitch dark in the garage.

Our house only has one panel box, the Trexler house has two. Everything is all hooked up and ready for power.

Siding-Back Side of the House

Today David and Kenny worked on finishing the siding on the back side of the house.
Once again, these French doors are my favorite! They just keep getting better!

Ryan rushed down to the house to help out after school. With Davey's broken ankle, David is glad to have Kenny around to help out for a few days.

This is not an angle of the house that I usually photograph. That's because it is VERY wet and wet clay is not fun to walk in. But I walked through the woods today to get these shots. Oh, the things I'll do for a decent picture!

Master Bedroom

Today was a clean up day for David and his Dad (Gordon is here in VA for a 2 week visit). They cleaned up all of the sheetrock mess that was left behind and put the Shop Vac to good use.

This morning, David built an arch that is in the kitchen and goes into the laundry room. It adds another touch of character to the house.
Today, in Virginia, we enjoyed a BEAUTIFUL day! I couldn't capture the 65 degree weather but I could photograph the beautiful blue sky!

In one day the Trexler house got ROCKED!! These are some pictures of the garage. Above is the attic entrance in the ceiling.

I need to say, the garage seems HUGE!!! And the floor...it came out so nice!

Concrete!

Yesterday, the concrete floor in the garage was poured. It's not very easy to see since the light from the outside is blocked by the plastic hanging over the door. Today I should be able to get some better pictures.

Sheetrock Delivery!

Yesterday, Better Living delivered all of the sheetrock for the house. David had them put the amount of sheets needed in each room so that it would be faster for the sheetrock crew this morning.

Insulation and More!

Dad and Di bought a flat screen TV for their bedroom. However, they did not want to have wires running down the wall or have a dresser under it to hold the DVD player or satellite box. David solved the problem by framing in a "box" into the bathroom cabinet. This way, the DVD and satellite box can sit inside the wall and the wires will be hooked into the TV from the wall behind. He's a CHAMPION!
Here is the shell for the master bathroom cabinet. The bedrooms and the bathrooms were insulated on all walls as a sound barrier.

Today the reminder of the walls were insulated.

David and the twins finished up the tubing for the radiant heat in the floor of the garage (after the picture was taken).

Here in Louisa we woke up to a BLIZZARD! We had a two hour delay from school because we got nearly ONE HALF of an inch of snow!!!!! It's all melted now...thankfully! :)

Insulation

Insulation was put into the garage walls and many of the exterior walls, today.

More insulation will be put in tomorrow. Soon, the garage floor will be poured and the sheetrock will be going up on the walls and ceilings. This will be a VERY busy week at the Trexler house!

Gravel

This is the heat pump that was installed on the side of the garage. The best part is that Dad and Di won't see it while they are relaxing on their front or back porch.
David smoothed out a number of loads of gravel in and in front of the garage. This is to prepare for the concrete that is coming in the next few weeks. This will be the entrance to the front porch.

Currently, there is a five inch step from the garage into the house. Once the concrete is poured, there won't be any step at all.

The garage looks so different with gravel instead of dirt and the floor is level now.
Next week will be a busy one! They will be insulating the house, hanging sheetrock and getting things completed for concrete.

Odds and Ends!

Today one of Ryan's jobs was to run the wires to the can lights that were installed on the front porch.
They also filled in the front porch with stone. In the next few weeks, the concrete will be poured.

These are the two small cans (50 watt) that David put on the outside of the french doors. They will help to iluminate the back porch entrance. The cans are uniquely tucked up into the soffit of the house and will add even more character to the house.

If you have even wondered how many feet of wire are in your house, here's a bit of trivia for you on Dad and Di's house. David has currently installed 5,000 feet of electrical wire in the house! Here are two electrical boxes for the light switches to the kitchen, dining area and livingroom.

Shower Time!

The shower has now been installed in the master bathroom! This is the same one that is now at camp!

Big news...the siding is finally here! It's grey but looks a bit blue in the picture...Don't worry, Di, it's just the way the light was this evening when I got down there to take pictures.

Heating and Air

This is one of the cold air returns that is in the office closet. The open section is in the hallway.

The second cold air return is in the master bedroom. This is the linen closet in the master bath.

A Tub Already!

Last week, the bathtub in the guest bath was installed so that they could begin the rough plumbing. If you've been to camp lately, you'll notice that it's the same style as the shower David installed up there!
David finished installing the remainder of the can lights in the ceilings. The long tubes were hanging during the first day of the heating and air work that was done last week.

This is the lighting/ two of the air vents in the living room.

While the heating and air guys were busy at work, David and Ryan were working on MORE wiring!

Sorry about the delay in blogging...we have been experiencing some techinical difficulties...but seems we've worked out all the bugs!

No Snow Here!

It's hard to believe but it's time for locks on the doors! As you can see, Rebecca wanted to help out. She and Dan worked to get the dead bolt in and then called for reinforcements! As always, Diane is a great supervisor!

I know that many of you are wondering if David got his cookies from Di....well, he did! She must have baked for days before making the trip. Diane even made special cookies just for him to take for his coffee breaks!

The Trexlers Ring in the New Year!

Happy New Year from The Trexlers! Dad, Di, Rebecca and Dan came down to Virginia on Tuesday and Wednesday they were hard at work. With the help of David and the twins, they wrapped the last two windows, sealed the Tyvek and put up a lot of hurricane ties.

More Soffit and Facia

Yesterday, the guys finished up the soffit and facia on the front of the house. There is also a picture of the storage room that is above the garage.

Today David and the twins (since they are on Christmas break) put in a long full day down at Dad and Di's. It was very cold but at least all of the mud was frozen.

They put up soffit and facia on the back side of the house and did the daunting task of moving the bathroom window one foot

and installing it.

David is quickly losing faith in the Post Office as he is SURE that they have lost the dozens of oatmeal cookies Grandma has sent to him. She wouldn't want her "champion" to run out of energy before they come for their visit next week!

French Doors and More!

Here are some pictures of the things David has been working on at the house this week. While the thousands of feet of wire going into the house don't make for great pictures, the time he has spent wiring the house was worth at least one.

The french doors will be the entrance to the back porch and I think they look GREAT!!!

There is also a picture from the outside of the master bedroom window.

Once again, David's hard work is paying off and the house is turning out great! He is "Diane's Champion!" I know oatmeal cookies would help him to keep up his strength! (Was that subtle enough, Grandma?)

The ROOF!!

The roofers put the roof on the entire house in less than three hours. They had a perfect day...it was near 70 degrees today!

It was a cold and rainy day here in Louisa. Thankfully, David and Kenny were working under cover. They spent the day building many of the interior walls.

These pictures are probably going to make the most sense to Dad and Di...since they have spent so many hours studying the plans of their house. To most of us, they will simply look like boards. But believe me, when you are actually standing in the house, it is starting to feel like a home!

Today was a day for putting up the beam that supports the front porch as well as the supporting posts.

David also worked on the interior framing in the house. This is a wall in the master bedroom.

The entrance will have side windows with french doors. I have been told that the doors are gorgeous!

The roof inspection is scheduled for tomorrow and the shingles are going on this Friday...weather permitting. We may be getting some winter weather.

The entire roof is now ready for shingles!

David worked hard to get the entire roof done since we have quite a bit of rain coming this weekend and most of next week.

Kenny is nailing down the last of the ice and water.

David was able to get the roof completed over the garage and get the facia boards on around the house.

Plywood On The Roof!

The back side of the roof has plywood, ice and water and tar paper already on it! All it needs now is shingles!
The side of the house has the same on the roof.

When I arrived after school, they were hard at work getting the roof over the living room completed.

This picture will help Diane see how the men get around on the roof. She couldn't picture it yesterday. Just below David's feet is a 2 x 4 that is nailed down just in case someone looses their footing.

This is the end of the house by the garage. The roof on this section will be done tomorrow. As always, the progress on this house seems more amazing each and everyday.
