More Walls Going Up!

Dad makes EVERYONE on the job site work!

What a trooper! It was VERY cold and windy down there today!

This is a picture of the garage walls.

Right now, they are standing in the master bedroom looking at the large window.

I am standing in the laundry room looking down the back of the house.

There aren't many more exterior walls to go up in this house! We...yes I said we...got three more sections of the walls up this afternoon. David and Dad built the walls today and they waited for us to arrive before attempting to put them up. The kids and I only had school until 1, Grandma was busy making pies for tomorrow, Rebecca did school work and made a cake, so Dad and David were left to work alone.

Walls, Day 2!

What a surprise to pull in today after work and see so many walls! This place is really starting to look like a house!

A Quick Video!

Here is a quick video of the second wall going up yesterday. As you will see, it is a good thing that Grandma was able to run in and save the day! :)

WALLS!!!!!!

On Monday, Dad and Diane were VERY busy! They went to Charlottesville to pick out their windows, doors, knobs, siding, shingles, and lots more I can't even remember! When they got back to Louisa, David put them right to work framing walls! They were excited to be a part of the action and are very proud of their work! As you can see from the pictures, everyone was working hard and EVERYONE slept well last night!

Moving Day?

Well, today was a sort of moving day for Dad and Di. They didn't exactly move furniture into the house but they did fill up the back room of our shed. They arrived yesterday in a huge Penske truck (which even Diane drove!) and it was pretty full. This way, the final move from New York will be much easier. They recruited some of the strong neighborhood boys to do the heavy lifting. Dad was excited to put one piece of furniture into the basement of the house...his work bench is already in place! The top picture is of the meandering driveway that they wanted. It is easier to see now that the leaves are off of the trees.

Happy Anniversary, Dad and Di!

What a great way to spend an anniversary...walking around your new home for the first time! Dad and Di were SO excited to see the progress of the house in person! There was lots to explain and many questions to be answered. Diane says it finally feels real! Tomorrow they will be going to Charlottesville with David to look at siding, windows and doors. Then on Tuesday, the framing of the walls should begin.

A Floor To Walk On!

Wow! It was so nice to be able to "walk around the house" on the new floor! They worked on finishing the plywood, the remainder of the back filling and cleaning up the surrounding dirt. The Trexlers are in for a surprise tomorrow! Dad, Di and Rebecca are making the long trip from Syracuse in a moving truck! It will be a long trip but they will have a lot to look forward to when they arrive. I'm sure they won't be at my house very long before they go down to their property! (That is, if they actually come to my house first!)

Floor Joists Day 2!

Today was another busy day at the Trexler House! They finished putting in the floor joists and began putting on the plywood. I was standing on the edge of the garage taking the picture and looking down the length of the house. By the time I got there the sun was beginning to disappear so the camera had a hard time focusing. This was the only picture that was not blurry. David also moved a lot of dirt again today as they are trying to get the back filling done.

Concrete Day!

It was a VERY cold day for concrete but the basement floor is done and it looks GREAT!! David was very impressed with the job the men did. While the concrete crew was working on the floor, David and Wayne were able to get a lot more of the back filling done around the foundation walls. I think this weekend Dad and Diane will be amazed when they get to see all of the progress in person! After all, the last time they were here this was all just a clearing in the woods.

Floor Joists

It's COLD here in Virginia but that didn't stop David from working! We even had a dusting of snow on the grass this morning! That rarely happens!

Davey and Ryan were hard at work after school. Here is Ryan rolling out drainage pipe. Davey is listening to the boss tell him what they will do next.
Earlier today, David put in floor joists over a section of the crawl space and a huge beam across the basement and living space for support. There is a picture of David working on putting in the drainage pipes for the gutters. Wayne is doing some of the back-filling to fill in the deep holes on either side of the foundation walls. Even the littlest of workers got tired today! He and his friends were on trash detail after school.

More to Do!

Today David worked all day on putting on the sill plates. For those of you who are not in the construction business, they are thick pieces of pressure treated wood that bolt to the concrete walls. From here, everything will build up and attach to these plates. There is also a layer of sill sealer between the wall and the boards. Davey and Ryan came down after school to help get the job done.
